President Mohamed Nasheed into his first 6 months at office started weekly radio address absent last Friday bringing a pause to his continuing campaign to meet the public. The president trying to reach his voice to the nation every Friday earlier changed the timing and then missed an address on June 19.
The first time his address missed was during his visit to fame in Sweden, where recently an opinion poll barred building new minarets at the mosques, to receive Anna Lindh Award.
President’s office did not make any prior announcement of his weekly address cannot be broadcasted but every Thursday the office of the president publishes a statement that president will highlight important issues and important government provisions.
The president’s office responding to Haama Daily question of his “radio break”, the spokesman at the office Mohamed Zuhair said that president’s busy schedule at Copenhagen barred his time from meeting the public.
President at Copenhagen rising from the low lying climatic vulnerability is taking part at the global summit to strike a deal to tackle problems caused by global warming due to carbon emission. He had been in the spotlight and Zuhair said the time he is supposed to deliver his weekly radio address was struck at a meeting. Zuhair said that the president’s office was unaware of president’s speech will be paused so the office of the president was on standby to the last minute. However he sent greetings on the occasion of the advent of the Hijrah, the migration of the prophet Muhammad Peace be upon him and his As’h’ab to the holy city of Medina from his birth city Mecca in 622, where Islamic New Year begins, to the people of Maldives and Islamic world.
